How it works

Three visits, one team, no subcontractors

01

We come and measure

A free visit at home or at your premises. We bring fabric samples, measure every window ourselves and tell you honestly which fabric suits the room.

02

Your blinds are made

Cut to your measurements, not to a nearest standard size. You get a written quote before anything is ordered.

03

We fit them

The same team returns to fit, square them up, check the drop and clear away. Nothing is left for you to finish.

Why HD Blinds

Why choose a roller blind specialist

Roller blinds are all we do, so every visit is about getting one kind of blind right for your windows rather than selling you a different product.

  • One product, done properly

We fit roller blinds only. That means straight advice on fabric, fitting position and controls, without a showroom of other products to steer you towards.

  • The same team from start to finish

The person who measures your windows is part of the team that comes back to fit them. Nothing is passed to a subcontractor.

  • Price in writing first

You get a written quote after the measure, before anything is made, so you know the full cost before you decide.

  • Aftercare for blinds we fit

If a blind we supplied and fitted develops a fault, we come back to repair it. Chains, safety devices and brackets can usually be fixed without replacing the blind.

Made to measure or ready-made?

Ready-made blinds suit some windows. Where they fall short is fit, fabric choice and fitting. Here is how the two compare.

 Made to measure (HD Blinds)Ready-made
SizeCut to your window's exact width and drop.Nearest standard size, often trimmed at home.
FitMeasured by us for inside or outside the recess, so gaps are kept small.Wider gaps are common, especially on older or uneven windows.
FabricChosen for the room: blackout, sunscreen, thermal, waterproof or day and night.A limited range, mostly plain or blackout.
FittingFitted by our own team, with brackets set to the window. You fit it yourself.
Child safetySafety devices fitted and checked by us.Supplied in the box for you to fit.
PriceWritten quote after a free measure.Usually cheaper to buy, with fitting left to you.

Fabrics, colours and patterns

Choosing a fabric: what it does first, then how it looks

We start with what the fabric needs to do in the room, then narrow down colour and pattern. That way you are not choosing between hundreds of swatches that would never suit the window.

Blackout

A coated or lined fabric that blocks light through the material itself. For bedrooms, nurseries and daytime sleepers.

Blackout blinds

Dim-out and light filtering

Softens daylight and gives privacy without making the room dark. The usual choice for living rooms and kitchens.

Blackout vs sunscreen

Sunscreen

An open-weave fabric that cuts glare and heat while keeping a view out. Useful for offices, screens and conservatories.

Sunscreen blinds

Thermal

Fabrics with an insulating or reflective backing that help keep heat in at cold, draughty windows.

Thermal blinds

Moisture-resistant

Coated fabrics that cope with steam and splashes and wipe clean. For bathrooms and kitchens.

Waterproof blinds

Flame-retardant

Fabrics treated or made to meet fire standards, often required in offices, schools and rented property.

Commercial blinds

Colours

Most rooms suit neutrals such as white, cream, stone and grey, which sit quietly against walls and frames. Darker shades show less dirt and make a bolder feature, but they absorb more heat on sunny windows. Colours look different in north- and south-facing rooms, which is why we bring samples to hold up at your own window.

Patterns and textures

  • Plain and textured weaves. The most versatile choice. A linen-look or woven texture adds interest without a printed pattern.
  • Printed patterns. Florals, geometrics and prints make a statement in a single window. Check how the pattern sits when the blind is half down.
  • Stripes. Vertical stripes stay straight as the blind rolls. Busy horizontal patterns can look fussy on small windows.
  • What people see from outside. Coated fabrics, including many blackouts, often have a plain white or grey back that faces the street. That keeps a row of windows looking tidy.

We do not list every fabric online because ranges change. Ask for free fabric samples by post, or see the full choice when we measure at your home.

What it costs

Straight answers on price, before anyone visits

Nobody can quote a blind exactly without measuring it. Width, drop, fabric and fitting all move the number. What we can do is tell you the range, so you know whether to carry on reading.

Our full price guide breaks the cost down by fabric and window type, with worked examples from jobs we have actually done.

  • Standard roller blind £65 to £290
  • Blackout fabric £95 to £450
  • Day & night £175 to £390
  • Motorised from £180

Per blind, supplied and fitted. Indicative. Your exact price follows the measure.

Happy with the fly screen installed in one of my bedrooms. It looks very sleek, and I’m very pleased with the installation, communication, and the product itself.

Common questions

Before you get in touch

The fabric does. The gaps do not. A roller blind sits slightly away from the glass, so a thin line of light comes in at the sides and along the top. This is normal for every roller blind, whoever fits it.

If you need a genuinely dark room, we fit the blind outside the recess so it overlaps the window, or add side channels that close the gap. We will tell you which applies to your window when we measure.

Yes, and this catches people out. Sunscreen fabric works by letting light through, so during the day you see out and passers-by mostly cannot see in. After dark, with the lights on, that reverses.

For rooms where evening privacy matters, day & night blinds or a second blackout blind solve it properly.

A moisture-resistant or PVC-coated fabric. Standard fabrics absorb steam, and over time that shows as warping along the bottom bar and marks that will not wipe off.

Waterproof fabrics wipe clean, which matters as much in a kitchen: cooking grease is harder on a blind than steam is.

Every blind we fit meets the UK child safety regulations, with the required safety devices fitted and tensioned as part of the installation rather than left in the packet.

For a child's bedroom we would usually suggest going further: cordless or motorised blinds have no chain at all, which removes the hazard rather than managing it.

Yes, as separate blinds, one per pane, because a single roller cannot follow the angles of a bay.

The skill is in the measuring: get it wrong and you end up with uneven gaps between the blinds, or edges that foul each other when they roll. This is the most common window we are called out to re-do after someone else has measured it.

Blinds are made to order after the measure, and we agree a fitting date with you once they are ready.

No. We fit roller blinds only, including blackout, sunscreen, thermal, waterproof, day and night and motorised versions. We do not supply shutters, venetian, vertical or perfect fit blinds. Keeping to one product is how we keep the advice and the fitting consistent.

Yes. You can ask for free fabric samples by post, and we bring samples to the measure so you can hold them up at your own window. Colours look different in north and south-facing rooms, so seeing them in place is worth doing.

Get in touch and we will sort it out. Chains, safety devices, brackets and mechanisms can usually be repaired or replaced without replacing the whole blind. Our repair service covers roller blinds that HD Blinds supplied and fitted. See aftercare and repairs.
